I am fairly new to Embrilliance, but have played with it for a couple of months with designs I already own, with no problems. I have recently bought a few new designs and, when I try to open them, I get a notice saying "Sorry, that file seems to have disappeared". Is this a computer issue, or have I done something wrong when I made Embrilliance my default program?

Where are you saving your designs? Are you saving them on a removeable storage device? If so, make sure it's plugged into your computer. I know that sounds silly and basic but it is a common thing. Are you double clicking the design to launch the software? If so, is that when you are encountering the problem? Let me know and I will see if I can assist you further. Thanks!
Saving to my computer. Yes, double clicking to open in software. That is when I get the message that the file has disappeared. I have downloaded MANY designs in 15 yrs of machine embroidery and have never had this issue. Thank you for you assistance.
Embrilliance tries to open from the last folder used. When trying to open your design are you sure Embrilliance is pointing to the correct folder? Files have disappeared usually mean it's been moved to another folder or deleted (which hopefully it's in the recycle bin). It would be helpful to know the opsys you are running - i.e. Windows (version?) or Mac. If you can't figure it out from the above, and you are on windows go to your c: folder and search on a file name, if it's on your computer it should come up. You can use partial file names. Then you can see what directory/folder it is in. I know nothing about MAC but start at your 'root' folder or whatever MAC calls it and do the same search.
hmmnbrd, where are you downloading your files? You are running professional. Are you logged in as administrator? If the files were downloaded as administrator, they would save as a different user. It is possible that you are now logged in as just a user. I will keeping checking with you on this. Thanks
Did you go to your C: folder and do an entire search from there? Make sure to turn off any hidden files in you file folder option. Also as previously mentioned make sure you are logged in as administrator. I've run Embrilliance on Win 7 Pro and Win 10 and I have just not seen this issue.
