If you are like our own Erich Campbell, Easter sneaked up on you this year. As he has done in years previous, Erich wanted to look out for those of you who need just a little bit of holiday decoration but don’t have the time for massive multi-color designs or long run-times. Following in the custom of his earlier holiday napkin designs, Erich searched out a lovely vintage bunny illustration to interpret into a smooth-running, single-color stitch-out that you can run through your machine in minutes.

This design comes from an antique children’s painting book. With his jar and net in hand, this little rabbit seems to be off on an adventure that may or may not have much to do with Easter, eggs, or chocolate, but once Erich saw all the character in this little illustration, he was determined to add it to his collection of mini designs. It’s a perfect piece to show you what you can do with one tool in StitchArtist Level 1. These engraving-style designs are a great first project for new digitizers to practice.

As digitizers often do with miniscule pieces, you can see how Erich left out excess detail, opened up tight areas, and connected lines in his digitizing so that this piece would be clear, clean, and run without a trim. Though clarity is important, this vintage piece was screaming for a little ‘wiggle‘ and roughness to the lines, so Erich plotted each pass over the art manually, so he could offset stitch points, add areas of additional texture, round out the curves, and thicken targeted lines, even if some features deviated from the original art he used as a basis.

Taken together, he was pretty proud of the fast-running little rabbit; after all, the product of a good digitizer isn’t just judged on the look, but on the ease of embroidery and the efficiency of the run. Grab your copy and you can stitch up your own vintage bunny as quick as you can hop over to your embroidery machine and hoop up your fabric.
