Many things have been updated in the Embrilliance platform since 2017 when the original “Dad WordArt Tie” design was published to our project blog! We thought that it might be fun to update the design using some of the newly included native fonts from Embrilliance Essentials! Back in 2017, Essentials only had 12 fonts. Since then the native font engine has been updated with more controls including Nearest Connection point and we now have 21 native fonts in Essentials. Looking for more information about the benefits and powers of native fonts, check out this post.
Every project needs a plan before you head into the software – it helps to make things go smoothly at the machine when you think things through. The plan for using this updated file is to stitch it on a 6 needle machine. The original design has 10 colors, and because each lettering object is separate, it is easy to change colors by clicking on the color chip for each lettering object.
The next “criteria” in the plan. was that this was going to be stitched on flat precut fabric that would then be stitched into a koozie – following a sewing machine pattern. Easier to multi-task embroidery with sewing since a dozen of these are going to be made and then embellished with fabric markers by kids in a church group. SO the design needs to be in a particular location in the hoop.

To send the design to the machine in a particular location, you simply need to add a basting box that is the size of the hoop. If you have Enthusiast, go to Utility > Baste Hoop. If you have Essentials, you would go to Utility > Baste Design and then resize the basting box as shown in this video.

Yes, if this is a “one off” design you probably don’t need to take this step – just move the design at the machine. However, since this could be a yearly project for this group, the BE file saved on the computer has the basting box included so that next year when we save off the stitch file and send it to the machine, it will be exactly where it needs to be. One less chance for a “whoopsie learning moment” made possible by thinking through the project before opening the software to make the magic happen!
The design is provided in our native .BE format, enabling you to save a stitch file for any embroidery machine. If you aren’t already an Embrilliance owner, we provide a free method to use our software called Express Mode that will not only allow you to use any of the wonderful free designs found in our project blog, but also enables you to install and create basic text treatments with fonts distributed in our popular .BX format produced by many embroidery design creators.
