We’re glad to see you doing good and staying well!

We are touched to be a part of your efforts to support medical professionals and keep doing good for your communities!

For the third day of our ‘Stay Strong and Stitch On!’ campaign, we’re showing our support for all the tireless nursing staff out there with the symbol of their indispensable profession.

SSSO #3: Caduceus (with and without outlines)

This satin-stitch, sculptural version of the Caduceus symbol created by our own Erich Campbell will enable you to decorate apparel and accessories for your favorite nurses.

This outlined staff has detailed wings and serpents, easy to set off from any color material. That said, if you want a simple, understated version, our outline-free option is also included. This piece replicates the look of molded metal badges, relying on the natural shine and shadow of satin stitches for depth.

This staff is suitable for any nursing organization that uses the symbol, measuring 1 7/8″ in height by 2 3/8″ in width. This versatile size allows for any number of common apparel placements. Combining it with lettering in Embrilliance allows you to create designs for any nursing organization, RN, or LPN.

Historical note: Caduceus isn’t historically accurate for the medical profession, but nurses are living angels and they like their pretty wings. It became commonplace about 100 years ago to use the wrong symbol, because it works, and people like it. If you want to take the wings from a nurse, you better pray you won’t be needing one sometime soon: Speaking for us here, they get wings! We didn’t force the barbers to change their pole either — and the only time they do any bloodletting today is (hopefully) by accident!

You can download the zipped file that contains the the outlined and outline-free Caduceus symbol at the following link!

  1. Thank you Erich for the Caduceus. It actually fits into a project I am working on! I have a question though: the heading says with and without outline but the only file is without the outline, can we buy the outlined version?

    1. So sorry for the glitch- It’s available up at the same link, free of charge. Go redownload the new Zip and you’ll have it. 🙂 -Erich
